PLANNING OF PROTECTED AREAS AND AREA MANAGEMENT
Ecosystem services within community-based forest
Partnered with Warmadewa University and the Yeh Buah community in Bali to conduct an ecosystem services assessment of community-led agroforestry, examining relationships between soil types, crop productivity, and biodiversity.

Development of destination planning, strategic environmental and social assessment for Liuwa Plains NP
In partnership with Wenborn International, the Zambian Ministry of Tourism, and local stakeholders, we contributed to destination planning and the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the newly formed Liuwa National Park in western Zambia. We evaluated opportunities for domestic and international tourism and helped design sustainable approaches, including spatial rotation of wildlife viewing experiences.

Conservation status of mammals and birds in the Imawbun Mountains, Kachin State, Northern Myanmar
Following more than a dozen field surveys conducted by Fauna & Flora International and BANCA in the Imawbun Mountains, we provided support in fundraising, fieldwork planning, and post-survey analysis. We integrated the data into a comprehensive assessment describing conservation potential, biodiversity risks, and management recommendations for the proposed national park.

Assessment of Important Bird Area in the Netherlands Antilles
On the southern Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, we surveyed a distinctive mix of North American, South American, and Caribbean bird species. By assessing restricted-range species and significant bird concentrations, we identified and mapped Important Bird Areas while documenting other critical biodiversity features present on the islands.

SPECIES CONSERVATION PLANNING
WWF’s Species Action Plan for the conservation of orang-utans in the wild
We prepared WWF’s strategic plan for enhancing its role in orangutan conservation, including a prioritized analysis of key threats, recommended interventions, a programme implementation and coordination framework, and detailed monitoring and evaluation guidelines.

Conservation of the wandering whistling ducks in East Kalimantan
Based on harvest surveys and trader interviews, and working with local fishing communities, we estimated annual duck extraction from three major lakes on Borneo and modelled its ecological consequences for lake systems and fisheries. Follow-up workshops with stakeholders and local authorities led to the introduction of a regulated annual catch quota.

Species action Plan for the Javan Hawk-eagle
Using data from field surveys and consultations with zoos, government agencies, and conservation NGOs, we prepared a prioritized action plan for enhancing the conservation status of a rare forest eagle. The plan identified measurable conservation targets, allocated responsibilities, developed annual workplans, and established mechanisms to direct resources to the highest-priority interventions.

Identification Manual for the Javan Hawk-eagle
We developed an Indonesian-language identification guide for Indonesia’s national bird and all eagle species recorded on Java.

​Species Management Plan for the Primates of Kayan Mentarang National Park
As part of the comprehensive Management Plan for Kayan Mentarang National Park, we authored the section on primate species management. This work incorporated field studies from various parts of the park and input from community groups, customary leaders, and local government agencies.

NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND WILDLIFE TRADE
Scientific assessment of risk to the population of tortoises / snakes listed by CITES as a result of trade
We conducted a comprehensive review and risk assessment to evaluate the threats posed to these reptile species through their import and trade in Norway, providing guidance for improved regulation and management.

Scoping report in tiger trade in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium
We produced a scoping report examining tiger trade dynamics, captive tiger keeping, and illicit tiger product trafficking in three European nations. The study integrated expert consultation, trade-record analysis, seizure data, and open-access information.

Trade in songbirds in Indonesia
As part of efforts to measure the scale of the Asian songbird trade, we surveyed markets to count individual birds offered for sale and identify the species involved. One day of monitoring in Jakarta revealed over 16,000 wild-caught birds from more than 200 species.

Analysis of wildlife trade from Greater Mekong Subregion countries to the USA and the EU
Commissioned by WWF-US, we completed a decade-long assessment of wildlife trade flows from the Greater Mekong Subregion—Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam—to the USA and the EU. The analysis also examined intra-regional trade patterns to identify key trends and risks.

Wildlife trade from ASEAN to the EU
Initiated by the European Commission, we analyzed the trade in wildlife reported as captive-bred from ASEAN nations to the EU, with particular focus on Indonesian reptile farms.
